Attorney Joyce M. Deitering graduated from Northmont High School in Clayton, Ohio in 1977. She was granted a Bachelor of Arts degree and Writing Certificate from the University of Cincinnati in 1981 and Juris Doctor from the University of Dayton School of Law in 1984.She has served as a founding member of the Ohio Women’s Bar Association and as a member of the Montgomery County panel of arbitrators as well as the panel of appointed counsel for Montgomery County and the United States District Court, Southern District of Ohio. She is a member of the Ohio and Montgomery County Bar Associations. Ms. Deitering has been admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Ohio (10/29/84), the United States District Court, Southern Division (12/14/84) and the United States Supreme Court (6/11/90).
Now serving as Mayor of Clayton, Ohio, Ms. Deitering has a long history of elected service. First elected as Randolph Township Trustee in 1987, Ms. Deitering served in that position until the merger of Randolph Township with the Village of Clayton in 1998. Ms. Deitering served on both the merger study commission and the first city council for Clayton. Her commitment to the Northmont area has been demonstrated by her former service as chairman of the Northmont Education Foundation, Northmont Mock Trial adviser, service on various ad hoc committees including Superintendent Selection Committee, and she is the recipient of the Friend of Education Award presented by the Northmont Education Association.
