UpRight Law awarded its first Access to Advocacy scholarship to Kelly Waldo.
We know the power of technology when it comes to closing the access to justice gap in the United States. As a profession, we have the tools to make legal assistance widely available, but we have a long way to go in implementing those changes. To help get law students thinking about access to justice and to reward those with great ideas for the future, we created the UpRight Law Access to Advocacy Award.
We launched our first scholarship contest earlier this year, asking law students this question:
What do you think about the need for the legal profession to adopt modern technologies to increase access to legal services and lower the cost for such services?
Their task was to create a video addressing some aspect of the issue, whether that meant highlighting a great solution already underway, advancing ideas for the future or simply illustrating the need for change.
Kelly Waldo a 1L at Boston College Law School, submitted the winning video and received a $5,000 scholarship.
Congratulations to Kelly, and to all of the law students and attorneys (including those here at UpRight Law) who are putting their skills and creativity to work in the effort to expand access to justice in the U.S.
